Nominating Committee Report submitted by the Sacramento Branch Nominating Committee;
Current Members: Shari Beck, Della Knowles, Barbara Smith, Pamella Vaughn and Ruth Werner (Chairperson).
The Nominating Committee has been fortunate in identifying great candidates to serve in many of the board positions for next year. However, we still have three positions open, and we would appreciate your help. We still need two Program Co-Directors and a President-Elect.
We are encouraging newer members to step up and volunteer to serve. Serving on the board of directors is a wonderful way to give back to our organization and our community, plus it provides an opportunity to get to know other branch members better and develop new friendships. I can certainly attest to the many friendships I have made while serving on the board in various positions. You may feel you don’t know enough about the job or the organization, but there are many long-time members who will be willing and able to help you as committee members or as knowledgeable resources with the answers to your questions via phone or email.
Please contact a Nominating Committee member (see below) to find out more about either of these volunteer opportunities. I guarantee you won’t be sorry!

The Nominating Committee is seeking volunteers who are interested in serving on the Sacramento branch’s Board of Directors for 2015-2016. The committee is looking for people interested in the following positions:
- 2 Program Directors
- 1 Co-Membership Director
- 2 AAUW Funds Directors
Even if you have not served in a leadership role with AAUW, please consider trying it this year. The branch provides mentoring and training for people who are new to the board. It’s a terrific way to get involved in AAUW’s mission and philanthropic programs, make new friends and learn new skills.
If you would like more information, please contact Nominating Committee Chair Molly Dugan at email@example.com. We can provide you with job descriptions and answer any questions you have about the open positions.
Thank you for your continued support.

As we conclude our year of “Celebrating Women” and this month’s focus on women expressing creativity, we have the great privilege to hear award-winning artist Taylor Gutermute (a.k.a. Patty Taylor) share her personal and artistic journey as an arts educator and visual artist. She will relate pivotal moments with family, friends, and mentors as she weaves her story around “the events in our lives that bring us each to our personal uniqueness as creative women.” She will also share what inspires her work and how she produces her metal sculptures and monotypes.
Since 1992, she has had more than 45 exhibits in addition to corporate collections and public art commissions, including a Del Paso Streetscape sculpture just down the street from our meeting place. Gutermute holds a MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
Following our morning program hosted by the Sacramento Temporary Contemporary Gallery, we will stroll across the breezeway to enjoy a buffet lunch at Mama Kim’s restaurant and install the 2014-15 Branch officers. We will also have the opportunity to hear from our Speech Trek winner, Jennifer Tang, and scholarship recipient, Brenda Calmelat.
