What Questions Would You Have About Teaching in Saudi Arabia?
- Was there a reason to worry about being being a female American in Saudi Arabia?
- Was wearing a hijab uncomfortable?
- Did it feel demeaning to have a prescribed mode of dress?
- How did the young women you taught feel about any of these questions?
- Did you have discussions about “arranged marriages?”
- Did your students show curiosity about the United States?
- Were your students aware Americans perceive that Saudi women live a very restrictive life? Did any of them feel that they do?
- What motivates them to seek higher education? Do they feel that they will be able to work in their chosen field after they return to Saudi Arabia?
If you had wondered about any of these questions, or have others of your own, come to listen to Karen Williams discuss her experiences teaching in Saudi Arabia. She will be addressing us on July 22nd, at 7 PM, in the Belle Cooledge Library Meeting Room, 5600 S. Land Park Drive.
